About Our Handmade Glass beads...

Suai proudly features glass beads made by Ukrainian craftswomen using the traditional art of lampwork. Lampwork is the process of making tiny glass beads by hand, using a single flame and small tools. It is a centuries-old skill, originating in the 14th century, often passed down to artisans through apprenticeship. Traditionally, lampworkers used the flame of an oil lamp to shape the molten glass. Today, small gas-powered torches are frequently used. Many lampwork artists working today are women, who make and sell the often intricate pieces out of their homes. Suai is proud to support these women and their craft.
